ACCF Webinar with former IRS Commissioners

As the 2022 tax filing deadline fast approaches, the ACCF proudly hosted former IRS Commissioners David Kautter and John Koskinen. The discussion centered on the issues the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been grappling with as a result of shrinking resources and how to fix the Agency’s problems under a continuously evolving economy.

Mr. Kautter was designated by President Donald Trump to be the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service effective November 13, 2017 and served through 2018. He also served as Assistant Secretary for tax policy of the U.S. Department of the Treasury from 2017 to 2021. Mr. Kautter is currently a partner at the U.S. offices of RSM International, a global network of independent audit, tax and consulting firms. Prior to joining RSM, he was the managing director of a nonpartisan research institute focused on tax issues affecting small businesses, entrepreneurs, and middle-income taxpayers. In addition, Mr. Kautter served as executive in residence in the department of accounting and taxation at the Kogod School of Business.

Mr. Koskinen was nominated by President Obama to be the 48th Commissioner of the IRS and was confirmed by the Senate on December 20, 2013, for a term that expired on November 12, 2017. Previously, Mr. Koskinen served as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Freddie Mac from September 2008 until February 2012. From 2004-2008 he was President of the United States Soccer Foundation, the charitable arm of soccer in the U.S. Mr. Koskinen earlier served as Deputy Mayor and City Administrator for the District of Columbia from September 2000 to September of 2003, where he was responsible for the operation of all city departments. He is now retired.
